Daily Lesson for October 3, 2018

Today’s Daily Lesson comes from Luke chapter 5 verses 36 through 39:

36He also told them a parable: ‘No one tears a piece from a new garment and sews it on an old garment; otherwise the new will be torn, and the piece from the new will not match the old. 37And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. 38But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. 39And no one after drinking old wine desires new wine, but says, “The old is good.” ’

The other day I was talking with Irie about her new venture into her own yoga studio. She talked about her desire to do something unique and not quite like whatever the else she has experienced in other places. She was not in any way critical of other places or styles, but simply recognizing that she has her own spirit and voice to offer to the world.

Phillips Brooks, not a yogi, but the 19th century preacher they did in fact call the Boston Brahmin, would have said Irie has found a way to speak the truth through her own personality.

We each have our own personality, spirit, and voice.  We have our own wine. The wine of our own spirit will never mature in someone else’s wine skin.  It’s too strong to simply settle; it’s own place is necessary. It must be allowed to do its own thing, and have its own personality.

New wine must be put into new skins. There it finds its own place to breathe, clarify, mature, and become its own.
