Daily Lesson for March 21, 2022

Today’s Daily Lesson comes from 1 Corinthians chapter 7 verses 29 through 31:

29I mean, brothers and sisters,* the appointed time has grown short; from now on, let even those who have wives be as though they had none, 30and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no possessions, 31and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.

Yesterday I learned that a great and dear friend has been placed on Hospice. I am saddened that I had hoped to visit him recently but was unable. There is grief in not being able to say one final thanks and goodbye.

Yet there is also grace in knowing he would wish me peace. He would want me to be free.

We must hold the world very lightly. In the end, own nothing. We control nothing — certainly not the times. It is not ours. Life is not ours. As my old Pastor John Claypool used to say, “Life is gift.”

Let us hold life delicately and as gift this week. Let us be gentle with ourselves and others. Let we who are married remember we “shall be like angels”.  Let us who mourn mourn lightly and not as those without hope.

The grass withers. The flower fades. The old page is turned. A thousand sparrows fall.

God knows their names; and God is with us when we say our goodbyes.
