The first Church I pastored in Vermont worshiped in a meeting house built in 1830. They called it a meeting house because they believed firmly that significant as it was the building that was where the church met, but was not the Church itself. To underscore, they even talked about their “Sunday go-to meeting clothes”. They never went to church; they were the Church.
Today the Church will gather in meeting houses all over the country. Whether we have our go-to meeting clothes on or just our plain pajamas we’ll be the Church wherever it is that we are gathered, even if it’s just in our living rooms.
And Christ will be with us, wherever just two or three of us are gathered.
