Daily Lesson for June 3, 2020

Today's Daily Lesson comes from Proverbs chapter 11 verse 14:
Where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
I was so pleased yesterday to read the statement put out by President George W. and First Lady Laura Bush. They offered healing words at a critical time.  This followed on the heels of an essay President Barack Obama published Monday on how to make the George Floyd protests a long-term turning point for America. This is fitting leadership from both Democrats and Republicans and it is what is necessary for binding up the wounds of the nation moving us forward towards "a more perfect Union". We need more local leaders to be doing the same name.  People with platforms and constituencies large and small should all be speaking up now about Peace -- with Justice, and pledging themselves and the institutions they represent to working to root out systemic racism and help build a better America. Our leadership at the top of our Country is sorely lacking at this point.  It is misguided and misguiding.  But the Nation does not have to fall.  For we still have "an abundance of counselors" to help guide us into a more safe, just, and harmonious future. Do not be dismayed, friends.  Hold on tight to the moment.  Hold on tight to each other.  Leaders, speak up. Citizens, unite.
And may God grant us wisdom, and courage, and leadership -- old and new -- for the living of these days.
